Rosewood Loop

Location: Border Ranges National Park, Northern NSW
Date: 14th March, 2015
Distance: 6 km
Time: 2 h 20 min

Border Ranges NP is a bit of a drive from Brisbane, but the scenic road that winds from Beaudesert over the border and through the ranges is quite spectacular - particularly early morning. The final 8 km to Sheepstation Creek is unsealed but it's about as easy going as unsealed roads get.

Rosewood Loop is a shorter section of the longer Booyong Walk, a mammoth 10 hours return without the aid of a car shuffle. From the camping area at Sheepstation Creek, the track descends through open forest briefly, crosses a creek and enters a lush rainforest arena.

A wooden platform provides views of Brushbox Falls, unfortunately hindered by some of the encroaching vegetation.

A highlight of the Rosewood Loop is not the massive rosewood trees themselves, but the glorious palm forests the track meanders through. Throw in some creek crossings with glittering cascades and it's a pretty nice introductory walk to the Border Ranges NP.

Feasting in the wake of recent rains there were fungi galore.
